Residential Addiction Treatment Program for Substance Abuse in Phoenix Arizona

Our Phoenix residential program supports adults with primary mental health conditions, substance use disorders and co-occurring needs. You live at our residential facility while following an assessed treatment plan. We do not operate residential facilities in the other Arizona cities discussed in our guides. Confirm the treatment address, accessibility needs, room arrangements and current availability with admissions before travel.

Assessment and Referral Before Residential Care

We offer adult residential treatment in Phoenix with therapy and individual treatment planning. Nirvana does not provide on-site medical detox or withdrawal management. When clinically appropriate, our admissions team can help coordinate an external referral to an independent provider, which makes its own clinical and admission decisions. Admission to Nirvana depends on assessment, any required medical clearance and current availability.

Understanding Residential Treatment

Residential treatment provides a structured living environment with an RN or LCSW on-site 24/7. On-site psychiatric visits occur 2–3 times weekly, with an on-call physician and an MD medical director available. Medications are prescribed on-site as needed, including Suboxone for appropriate MAT patients; methadone is not provided. Residential care is distinct from inpatient hospital care. People who require inpatient hospitalization need a higher level of care.

The program can support people who:

Benefits of Residential Treatment

Choosing residential treatment offers several advantages:

Who Can Benefit from Residential Treatment in Arizona?

A clinical assessment may consider residential care when the following concerns make outpatient treatment insufficient. These concerns alone do not establish eligibility or replace an individualized assessment.

What is Daily Life in Residential Treatment like at Nirvana Recovery?

A typical day in our residential treatment program includes:

Family Involvement in the Recovery Process

Family involvement can support recovery. Residential patients can participate in family sessions via telehealth, helping loved ones stay involved when they cannot attend on-site.

Aftercare and Ongoing Support

Before leaving residential care, agree on the next level of treatment, medication follow-up, a safe place to stay and who to contact if symptoms or substance use return. Ask our team which aftercare and alumni supports are currently available for your situation.

How long will residential care last?

A 30-day stay is a planning question, rather than a promised treatment length. Ask what the assessment recommends, when progress will be reviewed, what your plan authorizes and what could change the discharge date. Time in an independent detox program is separate from residential treatment at Nirvana.

Planning a return to your Arizona community

If you travel to Phoenix, plan the return journey and your first local appointments before admission. You may need a local prescriber, therapy, medication access and reliable transportation after discharge. Give permission for providers to coordinate records when appropriate. Residential family sessions can take place by telehealth, so relatives can discuss support without making every visit in person.

PHP meets five days a week, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., including an hour of breaks and lunch on-site. You need safe housing outside treatment hours. IOP meets five days a week for three hours, usually 9 a.m.–noon or 6–9 p.m. Telehealth or hybrid IOP may be appropriate for some adults. Ask whether these schedules, technology needs and clinical requirements fit your return home.

Local treatment and housing resources

Compare independent follow-up providers through SAMHSA FindTreatment. People seeking an AHCCCS care route can use the official provider directory. For housing or basic-needs support, contact 211 Arizona. Housing referrals and availability are separate from clinical admission. These services operate independently of Nirvana. Resource links checked October 12, 2026.

Voluntary peer support

For voluntary peer support, explore Arizona NA’s statewide meeting finder, SMART Recovery’s location and online meeting search, or NAMI Arizona’s peer and family mental-health support groups. The Phoenix-area AA directory serves Phoenix and Scottsdale. Confirm each group’s current format, location and participation requirements. These independent groups complement clinical care.

Independent tribal and IHS care options

For IHS, tribal and Urban Indian health options, use the IHS Find Health Care map and AHCCCS tribal health resources. The IHS mental-health program directory includes the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility.

Apache Behavioral Health Services publishes adult-service information for the Fort Apache community. The Navajo Division of Behavioral and Mental Health Services locations directory includes its Fort Defiance office. Ask each organization directly about current eligibility, intake requirements, available services and costs. These providers operate independently of Nirvana. Nirvana does not accept AHCCCS or Medicare.

Insurance and Payment Options

We are in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna. Ask admissions to verify the specific plan, residential-care benefits, authorization requirements and expected personal costs. Verification does not guarantee admission or insurer payment. Nirvana does not accept AHCCCS or Medicare. Request a written estimate and ask about any currently available payment arrangements before committing to treatment.

If your plan or clinical needs do not fit Nirvana, ask for information about independent providers and confirm their services, insurance arrangements and admission availability directly. A referral does not guarantee a placement.
